Is Brilliant Earth turning a corner? President Trump’s announcement yesterday that the US will impose ANOTHER 25% tariff on imports from India, should send shock waves through the global diamond industry. It means that, as of August 27, polished diamonds from India will carry a 50% duty – compared to the ZERO rate the trade enjoyed pre-April 2025. That’s not just a blow to India’s cutting and polishing sector, it puts pressure on the entire diamond supply chain given the high volumes of India-sourced polished that flow through the trading centers. India accounted for 22% of Antwerp’s polished imports so far this year and 31% of Hong Kong’s in 2024.
